Happy birthday, Steve.

“The ones who think they're crazy enough to change the world, are the ones who do” To write about Steve Jobs is, for me, the hardest thing in the world. What can you say about Steve? That he was an obsessive perfectionist with a keen eye for detail is well known. That he drove people insane with his sometimes absurd, impossible demands is also well-documented. That those absurd, impossible demands eventually came out to be products that redefined several industries is not only credit to those who worked on them, but also is testament to the visionary that was Steve Jobs. Today, Apple isn't just the world's most valuable company. Apple sets the benchmarks. Everyone else is in a race to keep up. True, some might even be ahead. But that's what sets Apple apart. Everyone wants to be ahead of Apple but Apple sets the the mark. Steve Jobs once remarked that the idea was to create a company so imbued with creativity that it would outlive him. He did. The 22 nd of February was a day like every other. It was a lazy Saturday when everyone wanted to do nothing but sit at home, catch a couple of movies and sleep. Everything was normal until the night. For in the night, 22/02/2014 turned into every youngster's worst nightmare. The unthinkable happened. Whatsapp servers went down. Reports of facebook acquiring whatsapp for a massive 19bn dollars had met with mixed emotions. While some felt satisfaction in having contributed to its success, others felt facebook had overpaid for a simple messaging service. But it isn't just a messaging service, is it? It is a lifeline for millions. A lifeline for the thousands of young love birds for whom talking over the phone for long hours wasn't as convenient as sending a voice note on whatsapp. A lifeline for the thousands of guys who choose to profess their love on whatsapp because they can't muster the courage to walk up to their love and open their hearts . Over the last 3 years, Dudurudh has grown consistently in terms of readership. Every milestone we cross is only because of you, our beloved reader. It gives us the motivation and the energy to work harder. With every passing article, the passion, the commitment and the thinking only increases and we're proud of how much we've achieved through this process. Having said that, we're not satisfied. Not even close! Our constant attempt to improve and expand isn't something that started with this post or the facelift that happened a few weeks ago. Ever since this blog was one draft post old, we've been trying to change for the better. More regular posts, better quality articles, a larger variety of articles. And as we expand, slowly but surely, we assure you that we'll always keep that mind. Dudurudh has an identity. One of truth and honesty. But equally, we're willing to play the devil's advocate. India is a complex country. Shashi Tharoor once said ,“Everything you can say about India, the opposite is also true”. We're a country of contradictions and there is no denying that. The Telangana debate is certainly one of the best examples to illustrate that point. There have been passionate appeals from both sides and no matter what the final decision, protest from the other side is inevitable. Still, a bill was introduced in parliament, a move that was instantly met with extreme resistance. There was ruckus in the house with microphones being broken and pepper spray being used by some of the MPs who weren't in support of the bill. For obvious reasons, they were suspended from the house. That episode, most people thought, was one of the lowest points of our parliamentary history. But what came after, was unanticipated and outright undemocratic. The 18 th of February 2014 will go down as the day when the lights were turned off on Indian democracy. And that is not an over r

Intentions mean almost everything in politics. Different people have different reasons to join politics. While there is no doubt that a number of politicians enter politics to make money and enjoy (and in the process, abuse) power, that isn't a fair judgement of many others. That said, the rotten eggs have created and continue to create enough problems for everyone else. The victim of their craziness is the every Indian. Their incompetence has destroyed system. They have made the basic rights of every Indian inaccessible to us. In short, they have made our lives harder to make theirs easier. That is the India we live in today. That is the reality. There has been more than enough criticism, on this blog and elsewhere, of Arvind Kejriwal's attempt to make these problems go away. The foremost of these criticisms came not just from bloggers and Arnab goswami but also from those who were closely associated with him. It was always "My way or the highway" with Arvind Kejriwa

Pareidolia: Part 3

It was late in the evening. Cold air found its way into the debriefing room through the little gap under the door. Isaac and Sarah stood at one end of the room. Sarah was already shivering from knowing that her dead brother was the main suspect in the case she was investigating. Chief Inspector Murugan was going through the case files. He had to decide if he could let Sarah carry on with the case or if it should be handed over to another officer. After going through the files very carefully  for about ten minutes, he lifted his head and said,"Please step out of the room for a while. I'll call you back in a little later". The duo turned to walk out. "Not you Isaac. Just Sarah". Sarah knew what was going to happen. She was going to be asked to stay away from the case because she was too close to the main suspect. She sat herself on the couch in the waiting room. From there, she could only see the door to the debriefing room. She closed her eyes and thought about w
